Introduction to the shorter paths south of London
The Long distance paths south of London page of this site only lists paths that are more than 50 km (about 30 miles) in length - paths that would take most walkers more than one day to walk.
However there are a number of other, shorter, paths that I've found useful as a link within a longer route. This page lists these paths.
The Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) recognises these paths as long distance paths, as they meet their criteria:
What constitutes a ‘long distance’? We list as ‘main routes’ ... walking routes that are 20 miles or more in length and are mainly off-road. Some shorter routes are also covered as main routes where they have some strategic significance, such as linking two other main routes, or if they are the only routes available in an area. We also list local networks promoted as a whole, providing long distance options when linked.
Selective list of shorter paths south of London, in order of length
The distances are only approximate - different authorities give distances that can vary by several miles.
